Welcome to our lab page.\u00a0 Dr. Mak and her team focus on studying causes of recurrent miscarriage.\u00a0 Recurrent miscarriage is a condition that affects 5% of couples who are trying to have a baby.\u00a0 Recurrent miscarriage is when a couple has two or more miscarriages which is a pregnancy loss under 20 weeks gestation.\u00a0 It is a highly devastating condition for couples both physically and emotionally.\u00a0 50% of couples with recurrent miscarriage or recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) will not have an identified cause.\u00a0 The mission of the Mak lab is to increase our scientific knowledge on RPL and provide answers to RPL couples.[\/vc_column_text] \n

The Sperm RPL Study<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n

The Sperm RPL study (PDF)<\/a><\/strong> is a NIH funded study to investigate if sperm plays a role in human recurrent miscarriages.\u00a0 Recurrent miscarriage is when couples have two or more miscarriages, and it affects about 5% of couples trying to conceive.\u00a0 In prior studies, there seems to be a link between the quality of sperm and increased risk of recurrent miscarriage.\u00a0 With this study, we hope to explore in depth sperm from men with recurrent miscarriage and help future couples with recurrent miscarriage.\u00a0 If you are interested in participating, the current recruitment centers are: UT Health Austin (Austin, Texas), UT Health San Antonio (San Antonio, Texas), and Northwestern University (Chicago, Illinois). Now recruiting at Yale Fertility Center, Case Western\u00a0 University, and the University of Iowa.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″]\n
