The overall goal of the Flanagan laboratory is to identify and delineate pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying amnestic and non-amnestic dementia to enable the development of diagnostic, and more importantly, therapeutic interventions. Our laboratory utilizes a variety of multidisciplinary approaches, including digital pathology, quantitative molecular platforms, peripheral and fluid biomarker development, biostatistics, epidemiologic assessments and also incorporates the use of model systems. The use of these complementary approaches enables the identification and delineation of the complex combinations of molecular and inflammatory mechanisms that contribute to the development of different amnestic and non-amnestic dementia clinical phenotypes.
